NON-RETURNING STUDENT SURVEY RESULTS

Introduction

The Non-Returning Student Survey was conducted in the fall of 2006. The prior survey was completed in the year 2000. Approximately 1,500 students who enrolled in the spring 2006 session for six or more credits but did not return for Fall 2006 were contacted. The survey attempted to contact students who chose not to return to NPC in order to identify their decision not to return and gain the student’s thoughts on NPC’s education services. This report presents the data for these student responses.

Methodology

The survey was developed by Mark Vest and information was obtained by staff members attempting to contact approximately 1,500 students by telephone. Completed survey forms were then forwarded to Mark Vest at White Mountain Campus. When all forms were completed the files were sent to the Director of Institutional Research and Planning for review and evaluation. All responses from the survey forms were entered into an Excel spreadsheet. Data was sorted by questions number and then sorted according to a legend applicable to each question. A summary was then generated and presented here.

Two files exist for this report. One is the Excel file containing the data located at G:\A Institutional Research\6-8Student Retention Survey Results Fall 06 (2).xls and the other file is this Word document located at G:\A Institutional Research\Student Retention Survey Results.doc.

Analysis

Question 1:  What is the primary reason you did not enroll in a class at NPC this fall?

Total responses for this question were 1,455. Of that number 671 (46%) were wrong numbers, disconnected numbers, no answer, no reply, etc. Subtracting these out of the total leaves 784 students actually contacted. The responses were then broken out into categories depending on the response. Below is a table outlining responses for question 1.

Recommendations

It is Institutional Research’s recommendation to research those students who indicated they would return to determine if, in fact, they returned.  If not, those students should be contacted to determine if NPC can assist them in their return.  At is also recommended students who indicated they have issues with health, family, scheduling, and transportation be contacted to see what NPC can do to get them back at school.

Conclusion

The overall results of this survey for Fall 2006 were positive.
